Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård has been nominated for his second Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe. This time for his mesmerising performance in the final season of HBO’s super successful ‘Succession’.
Five years ago Stockholm-born Alexander scooped the award for his chilling portrayal as Nicole Kidman’s husband in the mega-hit miniseries ‘Big Little Lies’.
This time around his character is as complex, with Alexander starring as a Swedish IT billionaire, Lukas Matsson, who plays mind games with Logan Roy’s children. The 47-year-old son of actor Stellan Skarsgård has also been nominated for an Emmy award for the same role. (Succession received 27 Emmy nominations!)
Variety magazine describes Skarsgård as “a frequent heartthrob, though one who can seemingly turns his charm on and off at will. The same man who’s repeatedly typecast as a Viking demi-God is, on ‘Succession’, entirely believable as a borderline intel who once sent a female employee bricks of his own frozen blood.”
Succession has set a new record for a TV programme with a whopping nine Golden Globe nominations! The series was nominated in every category for which it was eligible, including Best Drama Series. Alexander will be up against his own co-stars for the Actor in a Supporting Role on TV award – with Matthew Macfadyen (Tom Wambsgans) and Alan Ruck (Connor Roy) also receiving nominations; whilst Brian Cox (Logan Roy), Jeremy Strong (Kandall Roy) and Kieran Culkin (Roman Roy) have each received a Best Actor nomination. Sarah Snook (Siobhan ‘Shiv’ Roy) received a Best Actress nom, and J. Smith-Cameron (Gerri) received a Best Supporting Actress nomination.
Swedish composer also nominated for Golden Globe award
Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson – who wrote the music for one of this year’s most successful movie’s, ‘Oppenheimer’, has also been nominated. The musician hails from Linköping.
The 2024 Golden Globes ceremony will take place on 7 January 2024, with the Emmy’s a week later.
